Rain & rain & rain & rain & hail.

Well it rained so hard that the clouds had a nose bleed.
I don't think I've heard such noisy rain throughout the night & today. It is like living inside a snare drum especially when the hail spatters like gravel against the roof. The wind really gusted up to alarming levels throughout the night blowing bits & pieces about outside. There was one almighty crash just as I was nodding off,'piece of hardboard from up top,' Jim said automatically as I was bolt upright in bed. And sure enough he was right.

Today was the same - rain coming down as if someone is chucking buckets of the stuff about on set. A mini water spout affair appeared over in the veg garden. On closer inspection I think it's a mouse hole/run that has water pouring in so quick it's coming out like a fountain. It looked really strange. I wouldn't want to fall in the burn - it's roaring like a lion, I even hear it now with the telly going.

Well that'll be the lambs sold tomorrow. Harold came & loaded them for me. I can't believe how they've grown. I've changed my mind about Cheviots & can see why they are favoured here. It'll be strange tomorrow not seeing them, hearing them baaing as they hear the shed door opening & closing & they knew breakfast was coming. I always gave them a full English being Cheviots...........

Yesterday a fellow crofter appeared with a list of all his livestock. He's having to sell the lot as his wife has suddenly left. It's quite a surprise & it is very sad for him, but I can't have a croft of elderly ewes of dubious parentage. I will take some of his poultry however - a couple of Scot's Dumpys.....that are elderly..............that will come with some Isa browns that are ...well...ordinary, but good layers.

He has a pair of geese that are his favourite pets but I think they'd wreak the garden.
