Bye Bye Sunshine.

The sun will land on the croft again on January 15th - the further towards the head of the Loch the later it comes back calling. When making Winter small talk with a local one askes,'when do you get the Sun back?'

Three Thirty This Afternoon.

This was taken at three thirty this afternoon. It's been bitterly cold today -15 at Glascarnoch. There has been quite a breeze which has really been cutting. I walked to the shop & was grateful for a lift some of the way as I had so many layers on walking was difficult.

I had to get the vet to send out some medication for Wee Mon - I phoned yesterday, it arrived by post today along with a letter that was posted on the 3rd December - weird, but glad that I got the cat's injection into him & his anti-biotics started as he's wheezing away like a steam train.

Wee Mon Watches.

Wee Mon watches from the window as I get some grub for the hens. You can see the washing strung above the stove. It's a leaden, sky overby.!

We look like a tinker's encampment.

The wee caravan is Jim's drawing office & he hunches in there with no heating over his drawing board.

The old VW is housing ply wood & the saw at the moment - have space will fill it.

There was a puddle of water in the shed the other day beside the photo copier. The bottles of comfrey foliar feed I'd stashed there had frozen & burst being old glass wine bottles. It smells like we have stored something putrid in a trunk.

From The Road.

I had to walk to the post office today as the road wasn't great. It was lovely taking in all the vistas - thought I'd landed up in Canada.

You maybe able to just see our shed roof in the bottom left hand corner.

The Bracken Problem Down The Bottom.

Thew bottom near-side of the croft is invested wih bracken & brambles. I've done the far away bottom field, but had just started to tackle down here when the snow came calling. It's a steep drop down to here & I need to do rather a lot of levering up of bramble roots with the adze I have that really suits that purpose - although not what they were designed for.

I was tracking or rather trying to track a pine marten that had been for a trot around the hen houses through the early morning,or last night.
If you don't put the hens away he'll have them...snap...

BBRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Last night felt exceptionally cold with both cats burrowing under the duvet & grizzling at one another.

We've been filling a plastic watering can with water from the burn for use inside. It was frozen solid this morning as was the door & windows.

We had to venture over to Ullapool & it was glaringly bright with everything twinkling, massive icicles on all the waterfalls. The snow lying on the trees looked wonderful, but there are a few trees lying almost horizontal above the road propped against their neighbours, ready to come crashing down in a puff of wind. It all looks very dangerous. It was -12 going over the Thane & that was in the sunshine - goodness knows what it is now. The burn is almost frozen over now. It is far too cold.

The Spooky Saw Mill

Do you ever go somewhere & get a real spooky feeling? Well the saw mill at Dundonnell does it for me. There's something strange about the place. Maybe if you click on the photo to enlarge it, you can see something in the botton left had corner? Let us know.
